EMERGENCY USA Board President Anna Gilmore recently attended the EMERGENCY 2014 International Conference in Milan. Here is her report back about where we are and where we are going in Central African Republic:
A short film was screened about the situation in CAR. Circumstances are quite desperate as the conflict has wreaked havoc on the most vulnerable populations. One inspiring announcement was that because of program coordinator Ombretta’s diligent work and advocacy, the new health minister in CAR is now in favor providing health care free-of-charge and has begun to structure the health system accordingly.
Before and After Pictures were shared of the Complexe Pediatrique to show the great impact that EMERGENCY made in upgrading the facility’s capacity. It was very inspiring to see the space transformed from a dilapidated facility to a sparkling and fully-equipped space. One comment was that the morale of the clinical workers changed greatly after renovations. The atmosphere was updated so that people were beginning to wear their uniforms with pride and hope.
