
Mobile clinics
Emergency has set up two mobile clinics, named "Polibus", to guarantee timely medical assistance where needed. These mobile units are in use for definite periods in areas with a strong immigrant presence, such as agricultural zones, camps for nomads or refugees.
All the services provided by Emergency Ngo's mobile clinics are free of charge.
Operations in Sicily (southern Italy)
A mobile clinic is operating sice December 22, 2011 in Sicily, in the area of Vittoria (Ragusa province), to provide medical assistance to migrants working in agriculture.
Operations in Calabria (soughern Italy)
Previous operations
A mobile clinic is currently operating in Calabria, in southern Italy, in the area of Rosarno, where a great number of migrant workers is working on the tangerine harvest.
Operations in Basilicata (southern Italy)
An Emergency Ngo mobile unit started operations in Venosa (Potenza province) in September.
The patients we are visiting are mainly young men from Burkina Faso living there for the harvest season, who suffer form muscolosketeal diseases caused by their working and living conditions in the fields.
Our team in Venosa includes a doctor, a nurse, two cultural mediators and a driver.
Operations in Apulia (southern Italy)
An Emergency Ngo mobile unit is working in the Foggia province since May. The area is inhabited by a great number of migrant workers, mainly young men in their 30s, who are there for the harvest season.
Most of the patients we have visited so far suffer from muscoloskeletal or skin diseases, due to their working and living conditions.
Siracusa (Sicily)
A mobile unit was in activity in Siracusa (Sicily), in an area inhabited by migrant workers employed in agriculture. Emergency's team was composed by a doctor, a nurse and a cultural mediator.
Manduria (Apulia)
A mobile unit was in activity at Oria, in the Apulia region, in the proximity of the Manduria camp which was hosting 1,500 refugees who arrived from Lampedusa during March.
