Emergency

Mayo Pediatric Center

In December 2005, EMERGENCY opened a Pediatric Center to provide primary health care to the children in the Mayo IDP refugee camp on the outskirts of the capital city, Khartoum. The camp is a result of populations fleeing to escape the war between North and South Sudan.

The Pediatric Center is located in the section of the camp called "Angola" where the health care situation is at its most appalling. With a population of 300,000, of which 50% are children, there was no health assistance available free of charge until EMERGENCY opened its doors.

EMERGENCY’s Pediatric Center provides free of charge first aid and primary health care to each of its patients. It is equipped with a 6-bed ward and an ambulance ready to transfer the most serious cases to Bashair Hospital in Khartoum.

Approximately 50 children per day are examined and treated at the center.
