Event: Roberto Saviano With Emergency USA: Migration and NGOs
EMERGENCY USA invites Italian writer Roberto Saviano to join a conversation on migrants and NGOs in Europe.
Since the beginning of 2019, more than 300 people have lost their lives crossing the Mediterranean Sea from Libya to Italy.
Italian Deputy PM, Matteo Salvini, states that ports are “closed” and Libya is a “safe haven”, despite evidence highlighting the opposite. The other Italian Deputy PM, Luigi Di Maio, once described NGOs involved in rescue missions as “sea taxis”.
In fact, everyday migrants attempt to reach European shores and seek refuge from poverty, war, and violence. For years, EMERGENCY has denounced the inhumane conditions in Libyan prisons where migrants are detained and tortured.
Following the launch of his new book “In mare non esistono taxi” (There are no taxis in the sea), EMERGENCY USA invites Roberto Saviano, author of Gomorrah, to join a conversation on migration and NGOs in Europe.
EMERGENCY USA will then present its current programs and activities in the Middle East, Africa, and Italy, including the new pediatric center designed by Renzo Piano in Uganda (to be opened by Spring 2020).
At the end of the evening, we will be serving light refreshment to all our guests.
The event will be in ITALIAN. ENGLISH translation available.
