22-year-old Sharifa is one of the thousands of Afghan mothers struggling to overcome the hurdles that are posed by a healthcare system weakened by decades of war, poor facilities, and social and cultural barriers that are difficult to break.

These are the words we wrote last year. The current situation was unimaginable – not even on the horizon. Yet the Anabah Maternity Centre remains open and our incredible midwives continue to maintain that safe environment, despite the challenges.
In Afghanistan, COVID-19 is yet another crisis within the wider context of the ongoing war. Despite all this, our teams ceaselessly commit to providing quality care. Thank you to them and all midwives around the world for everything you do.
